Total Loss Vehicle Appraisal

Vehicle Appraisal Services in Ontario and Across Canada

CEAC provides independent, impartial and market-supported appraisal services for passenger cars, trucks, SUVs, motorcycles, RVs, commercial vehicles, classic and collector vehicles, and custom or modified vehicles.

Reports are prepared for their stated intended use and for consideration by insurers, ServiceOntario, legal professionals, financial institutions and other intended users, subject to each recipient’s requirements.

Our Vehicle Appraisal Services

Diminished-Value Appraisals
Analysis of the potential reduction in market value associated with documented collision history and repairs.

Pre-Purchase Assessments
Independent condition observations and valuation assistance before purchasing a vehicle. This service is not a comprehensive mechanical inspection or a guarantee against hidden defects.

Total-Loss and Insurance Claim Valuations
Independent opinions of a vehicle’s value as of the applicable date of loss, supported by relevant vehicle information and market evidence.

Insurance Coverage Valuations
Market-supported valuations for classic, collector, custom and specialty vehicles when agreed-value or stated-value coverage is being considered.

ServiceOntario Appraisals
Vehicle valuations for eligible Ontario ownership transfers and applicable tax-assessment purposes, subject to current ServiceOntario requirements.

Total-Loss Valuation Disputes

A total-loss settlement is generally determined according to the insurance policy, applicable provincial requirements and the vehicle’s pre-loss value.

When an insurer’s valuation may not accurately reflect the vehicle, CEAC can independently analyze its condition, mileage, options, history and relevant market comparables. The resulting report provides a documented opinion of value for consideration during the claim process.

Appraisal conclusions do not guarantee acceptance or a particular settlement amount.

ServiceOntario Vehicle Appraisals

CEAC provides vehicle appraisals for eligible Ontario ownership transfers and applicable Retail Sales Tax purposes.

Ontario requires an appraisal when a vehicle being transferred is 20 years old or older. An appraisal may also be relevant when the vehicle’s prescribed wholesale value does not reasonably reflect its actual condition or market value. Eligibility and documentation remain subject to current Ontario Ministry of Finance and ServiceOntario requirements.

Depending on the assignment, the appraisal may include:

  • VIN and vehicle identification
  • Odometer and visible-condition documentation
  • Review of relevant vehicle information
  • Current market research and comparable analysis
  • A signed opinion of value by a recognized independent appraiser

The appraisal provides an independent opinion of value. ServiceOntario and the Ontario Ministry of Finance retain authority over acceptance, tax assessment and registration decisions.
